Inter-Story Drift Performance of Concealed Connection Systems

Performance based design of the first tall wood buildings is a demanding task for engineers and architects. Structural elements need to be designed and tested to prove that the performance requirements are met. For the case of concealed beam to post connection systems testing is required for two major challenges i.e. inter-story drift and fire. Ideally an off the shelve concealed connection system would be able to accommodate at least 2% of story drift under design load and also achieve a 1 hour fire rating. The inter-story drift performance of an off the shelf concealed connector KNAPP RICON S VS under reverse cyclic load applied quasi statically was investigated with this research project. Findings of this specialized test program are presented in this paper.
